About the Artist Though clay constantly reminds me of the value of rhythm and commitment in ones life and work, taking time for playful experimentation is often what is most fulfilling. My most inventive solutions to the challenges of working with clay tends to evolve either out of taking a risk, or acting on an intuitive hunch, without much expectation regarding the outcome. The muse becomes that elusive and unexpected glimpse into a world of surprising possibilities. Stan Irvin is a ceramic artist and Professor of Art at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. He received his MFA from the University of Texas at Austin and subsequently set up the clay programs at Austin Museum of Art and later at St. Edward's University in Austin. Irvin continues to do hand building, wheel-throwing and glaze workshops for intermediate and advanced students throughout the region. He won first place in the 2009 Texas Teapot Tournament in Houston, TX and was a juror for the 40th Annual Rockport Art Festival.
